Beach cleanup in Ottawa on World Environment Day – June 5, 2018

The five Nordic embassies in Canada came together to join a local beach cleanup in Ottawa on June 5th, the World Environment Day.

The theme of World Environment Day in 2018 was #BeatPlasticPollution. To mark this day and shed a light on how marine litter is threatening our oceans and waterways the Nordic embassies in Canada joined forces with Ottawa Riverkeeper, Environment and Climate Change Canada and other volunteers on Westboro Beach.

The Nordic cleanup was part of City of Ottawa’s Spring Cleaning in the Capital and the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. Beach cleanups are widespread in all five Nordic countries, and there is also a joint Nordic beach cleaning day. We are all in it together to fight plastic pollution!
